Our Story

Why Happy Hands Recreation exists

Happy Hands Recreation was created from the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, explore, and thrive through movement, connection, and play.

We saw families searching for support that felt warm, practical, and personalized — a place where children could build real-life skills in a fun, supportive environment where they would be understood, encouraged, and celebrated.

That is why Happy Hands Recreation exists: to help children feel capable in their bodies, confident in their progress, and supported every step of the way.

Children don’t just need more instruction. They need connection, movement, play, and belief in them.

Meet Paola Dutra

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and founder of Happy Hands Recreation

Paola brings together her background in recreational therapy, child development, movement-based programming, and years of hands-on experience supporting children through play, structure, and connection.

Her sessions are designed to feel joyful for the child while staying intentional for the family. She begins by building trust, noticing what motivates each child, and then creating activities that support confidence, coordination, regulation, participation, and everyday growth.

Our Approach

Connection first. Then structure, challenge, and growth.

Every child arrives with different strengths, needs, interests, and comfort levels. Our process begins with connection, then builds into purposeful activities designed to support each child’s developmental goals in a way that feels engaging and achievable.

01

Connect

We build trust through warmth, play, and meaningful interaction so your child feels safe and supported.

02

Observe

We notice how your child moves, participates, communicates, responds to challenge, and engages with activities.

03

Create

We design purposeful play and movement experiences around your child’s needs, goals, interests, and current abilities.

04

Grow

We celebrate progress, adjust activities as your child develops, and share helpful insights families can use beyond the session.

What A Session Can Feel Like

What purposeful play looks like

Every session is thoughtfully structured while still feeling fun, encouraging, and child-friendly.

Warm Welcome

We greet your child, build connection, and help them transition into the session with comfort and confidence.

Engaging Activities

Activities may include obstacle courses, ball play, balance challenges, movement games, sensory-based activities, or fine motor elements depending on your child’s goals.

Guided Support

We offer encouragement, structure, and gentle guidance while helping your child practice confidence, regulation, coordination, and participation.

Celebrate & Connect

We celebrate wins, share highlights with families, and offer practical takeaways when helpful.

Sessions are customized. Not every session looks the same, because every child’s needs, interests, and goals are different.

The Brain-Body-Play Connection

Why purposeful play matters

Children build skills through repeated, meaningful experiences. When movement, connection, and play work together, children get to practice focus, regulation, coordination, problem-solving, and confidence in a way that feels natural and motivating.

Children experience movement

Activities invite children to balance, reach, throw, crawl, climb, hop, stretch, and coordinate their bodies in playful ways.

Children practice real skills

Each activity is designed to support attention, body awareness, emotional regulation, communication, participation, or confidence.

Children carry growth forward

As skills become more familiar, children can begin using them at home, at school, during play, and in daily routines.

Play is the path. Purpose is the plan.

Happy Hands Recreation is led by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Services are recreational therapy and movement-based developmental recreation services. We are not a substitute for occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, or medical care. When helpful, we can collaborate with a child’s existing therapy team and align activities with family or provider goals.
